Tell us a bit about your store:
NIK NAK is a unique store offering quality gifts and jewellery from around the world. Our store is often referred to a ‘treasure trove’ of interesting products across a variety of price ranges. Over the 34 years of trading we believe that we offer a positive, unique shopping experience with friendly service and free gift wrapping.
What is your position at NIK NAK and how big is your team?
Like most business owners I wear many hats as the owner, business developer, manager, buyer, merchandiser, marketer, jewellery repairs as well as hands on customer service. You will also find a fabulous team of 5 lovely, friendly ladies who are happy to help you choose that special gift or something to spoil yourself.
What makes your store so special and what is your most popular item?
Due to the fact that we are such a diverse store it’s almost impossible to pinpoint our most popular products. Everyone has their favourite ranges. In our jewellery section we especially love the quality and designs of Thomas Sabo, the uniqueness of our handmade Israeli jewellery, the sparkle of Elani, the sophistication of our Danish range and other jewellery treasures from different corners of the world.
We quite often get lost in the exquisite scents of the Australian made products including candles, diffusers or toiletries from Ecoya, Palm Beach or Urban Rituelle as well as the essential oils from In Essence.
What is the best part about your job?
The best part of NIK NAK is definitely our loyal customers who keep returning, working with a wonderful team and the diverse product range. It is a privilege to get to know Randwick people and visitors while helping them choose their purchases. Everyone has a story and most people are happy to share. It is the little things that make NIK NAK so special sometimes a simple smile, a hug or a friendly greeting can make the world of difference to the day.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Spare time? What's that? With 4 children there hasn’t been a great deal of spare time but I always manage a quick catchup for coffee or yummy salad at our favourite eatery ‘The Shed’.
I like to give back to the community wherever possible and feel we should all do something small (or large!) to make a difference. The past few years I have regularly helped run an ‘Ecowarriors’ group of children at a local school to learn about gardening, composting and the importance of looking after our world in little steps but important ways.
What makes Royal Randwick Shopping Centre a great part of the community?
Royal Randwick Shopping Centre is the hub of Randwick that is special in so many ways. We are so close to beautiful Coogee Beach and close to the city but it’s the people that make it. Many locals as well as transit visitors from Sydney, country, interstate and overseas either shopping, visiting our center or heading to the POW Hospital or NSW University. Randwick people are ‘real people’ and are often described as a friendly bunch! It concerns me that we must retain and treasure this community for all our sakes by supporting small business. One of my favourite slogans is “ Shop with us TODAY so that we can be here for you TOMORROW!”
