Woolworths Say Goodbye to Single-Use Plastic Bags

Starting June 20

Here's some information that should assist with understanding the Woolworths Single-Use Plastic Bag Ban!

Why are they banning the single use plastic bag?

Over 3.9 billion plastic shopping bags are used in Australia every year and the majority go to landfill. They take years to break down, and many end up in the environment polluting oceans, rivers and beaches.

Which bags are now banned?

  • Single-use plastic bags
  • Degradable and biodegradable lightweight plastic shopping bags

What bags are not banned and will still be available?

  • Garbage bags
  • Bin liners
  • Bags for food such as fruit and vegetables
  • Nappy bags
  • Dog poo bags
  • Department store plastic bags

What happens if i forget my re-usable bags?

You can purchase thicker plastic bags for 15 cents. Other foldable bags and freezer-type bags will also be available for purchase. Or borrow one from the Bag Swap Wall in Fresh Food.

How can I best prepare and save some money?

After you use your re-usable bags, leave them with your car keys and add them back into your car so they're always handy for your next visit! Alternatively, bring your own plastic bags or borrow one from our Bag Swap Wall opposite Green Valley Spices.
