Fashion Week Predictions

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia kicks off this week, and will set the fashion agenda for the rest of the year. We spoke to Fashion blogger Jenelle Witty from INSPIRING WIT about her top five predictions for what we’ll see on the runway.
  1. Monochromatic: We won't see this trend go away in a hurry, as graphic black and white prints separate into either romantic or minimal directions. Think voluminous ruffles and flares versus athletic and architectural design. Black, white and grey are obvious staples, so it is all about the designers putting their own flair into the interpretations. Maticevski, Dion Lee, Ginger and Smart, Yeojin Bae, Ten Pieces, Monster Alphabets are all ones to watch.
  2. Return of the eclectic: As Alessandro Michelle has revolutionised the fashion industry at Gucci awaking it from a minimal takeover, playful eccentricity is back. Expect to see print, sequin, beading, metallics and velvet take centre stage- perhaps all at once. Keep your eye on Romance Was Born, Alice McCall, Emma Mulholland, Discount Universe.
  3. Tail End of the 70's Revival: The bell sleeve and neckties are sticking around as soft, muted warm tones come back in. Mustard yellow, rust, dusky pinks and caramels replace some of the greys of past seasons. Bandanas, neck scarves and oversized hoop earrings and necklaces provide finishing touches. Think Tome, Macgraw, Bec & Bridge.
  4. Lingerie Dressing and 90's Tailoring: Silk and satin slips trimmed with lace are this time layered with ribbed knits, 90's tailored suiting and cotton shirting with extended cuff sleeves from the likes of Third Form, Holystone, Anna Quan, C/MEO Collective.
  5. Athleisure: Our beach culture is not to be denied and with the launch of P.Jamé and the recent P.E. Nation, fun, graphic 90's inspired athletic wear will rock the runways.
